About Us

Background to the Partnership

Ling Phipp was founded in 1974 and nowadays has two partners, five managers plus trainees and support staff. We serve clients in the East Midlands and all over the UK. Our out-of-town location, with easy parking, close to the M1 junction 25 (Nottingham/Derby - A52), is very convenient.

Our partners have outside business interests which give us an excellent appreciation of the challenges and difficulties experienced by business today. Our managers have all worked in a wide variety of professional and business environments, to complement our service and advice to clients.

We have been involved in a number of unusual projects, including setting-up the East of England Orchestra (now called "ViVA"), Nottingham Homestart and the Derby & Sandiacre Canal Trust. We have managed and advised on the finances of a wide range of interesting and challenging assignments, including sports clubs, footballers' benefit matches, environmental groups, and major funding applications including the National Lottery. We run a large payroll bureau and provide accounting services to a number of businesses, including TV, radio and sports personalities.

We are a general practice with a number of special skills. However, to support us in very specialised areas, including foreign tax, major land options, complex capital gains and inheritance tax cases, pensions planning, investment strategies, employment law and so on, we have fostered close relationships with recognised specialists. These include national and international tax advisors, major independent financial brokers and employment law consultants. We belong to the nationwide Accountax network, and offer fee protection insurance to clients through Abbey Tax, who also provide an expert specialist advice service.

We are registered Auditors and regulated for a range of investment business activities by the ICAEW. We also belong to various specialist groups with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, including the Entertainment and Media Industry Group. As various partners and staff are qualified with, or are training with the ICAEW, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Chartered Institute of Taxation and Association of Accounting Technicians we receive wide and varied technical support from those various bodies; we are also a training office for all four bodies.

We aim to establish a long-term relationship with all clients. We have acquired a number of other practices, but the steady growth of our business has been mainly from personal recommendations through existing clients. We value the fact that clients and staff stay with us and recommend us to others!

The Partners

Paul Turner FCA is a farmer's husband, living in Breaston with "her outdoors". Paul plays various musical instruments and sings in three bands ("Loose Follicles" play rock 'n roll, "Rumour Control" rock/Blues Bros/Commitments and "Tumblehome" traditional folk). He is also a keen dinghy sailor racing National 12 dinghies in competitions across the country.

Paul founded the Derby & Sandiacre Canal Trust & Society in 1993 (and is still a director of the Trust) - the scheme is successfully progressing the restoration of the former Derby Canal to full navigation to create a 12 mile linear park through the City of Derby and generate many 1,000's of temporary and permanent jobs. Paul is founder President of Long Eaton Dawnbreakers Rotary, a newly established "dual gender" (i.e. mixed!) club which meets weekly at 7.00am.

Diane Lockwood FCCA ATT is the partner responsible for audit registration and looking after the majority of our charity registered clients advising and assisting whenever possible, recently assisting with the set-up of two local church based charities; she is a member of Trinity Methodist Church, Long Eaton.

Married to Kevin and living near to Derby, she plays for Ockbrook and Borrowash Tennis Club. When watching sport Diane confesses to regularly attending 'Meadow Lane' to watch her favoured football team.
